On the evening of May 25, 2008, a
tornado nearly a mile wide devastated the towns of Parkersburg and New
Hartford. The Platt home, in New Hartford, was among the nearly 400
homes destroyed or damaged. Dennis Platt's Bach 37 trumpet was later
found among the rubble.

The trumpet was significantly damaged in the tornado. Merlin determined that a full overhaul would be needed to restore the trumpet to the original condition.
Also damaged in the tornado was Kevin Truax's home and Schilke trumpet, which Merlin overhauled.

Tuba Overhaul
One of our recent projects was a mechanical overhaul of a 1970's Miraphone 186 BBb Tuba. A mechanical overhaul involves removing the bell, bottom bow, and any damaged slide tube or branch in order to remove dents. We also decided to replace the top and bottom caps. We also did additional work to quiet down noisy rotors.
